Ingredients
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
- Carrots- Orange carrots work best for this recipe. They are robust and don't break easily. They are not very sweet like red carrots. If you don't mind the sweet flavor that comes from red carrots, you may use them. Baby carrots work well too.
- Garlic- While garlic powder may work, I love the crunchy garlicky flavor that comes from freshly chopped and air-fried garlic. You may grate the garlic too. Feel free to add onions or onion powder to enhance the flavor of these fries.
- Olive Oil- Olive oil works best as it adds freshness, nutty flavor, and aroma to this recipe. You may use Ghee, vegetable oil, or coconut oil as well.
- Black Salt- I love the addition of black salt in salads, soups, and curds. They add a perfect savory hint to the dish. You may use normal salt or sea salt as well.
How To Make Carrot Fries in Air Fryer
Step 1 Wash, Dry and Chop
Wash the carrots under tap water. Dry them with a kitchen towel. Chop them with ¼ inch thickness as shown.
Step 2 Coat Carrots with Oil
In a large bowl, add carrots, salt, garlic and olive oil. Toss them to mix well. If you don't like raw garlic, you may use garlic powder. Also, you may add garlic in the last 2 minutes of air frying, especially if you dislike the charred taste.
Step 3 Air Fry Carrots
While you chop carrots, pre heat the air fryer at 180℃ for 10 min. Place the carrots coated with oil, salt in the basket with or without parchment paper. If you want more crispy, avoid parchment paper and place the carrots directly over the basket (last image below). Air fry at 200 ℃ for about 10 min. Fry in batches for more quantity. I fried in 2 batches. The second batch took less time. It was done in about 7 min.
Step 4 Serve It
The amazing Air Fried Roasted Carrot Fries are ready. Serve with your choice of dip!

Variations
- Cheese Carrot Fries: If you enjoy a cheesy twist, top the carrot fries with grated Parmesan cheese or vegan cheese just in the last few minutes of air frying. The cheese will melt and form a crispy, golden crust, enhancing the overall flavor and texture.
- Air Fryer Vegetables: Make Air Fryer Vegetables by adding other veggies such as zucchini, sweet potatoes, potatoes, or bell peppers.
- Add another Seasoning: Feel free to spice up the carrot fries with red peppers, and black pepper or add dried herbs such as rosemary, thyme, or oregano.
- Make Them Sweet: For a sweet and spicy flavor profile, combine a touch of honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup with a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Make them Tangy: Add a burst of citrus flavor by grating the zest of a lemon, lime, or orange over the carrot fries before air frying.
Expert Tips
- Carrots that are too thick may not cook evenly, while very thin ones might become too crispy or burn easily.
- Make sure to dry carrots for crispier fries or else you will have soggy fries.
- Arrange the carrot fries in a single layer with some space between them to avoid crowding.
- I have air-fried carrots in two batches. In the first batch, I used parchment paper and in the second I placed carrots directly in the fryer's basket. I felt that the ones fried with parchment paper were not too crispy and a bit tender from out, whereas, the basket-fried carrots were amazingly crisp and charred. You may choose the method that you prefer.
What To Team With These Carrot Fries?
Serve these amazing carrot fries or carrot chips with-
- Dipping sauces: honey mustard, or tangy yogurt-based dip like tzatziki or ranch dressing, or Green Cilantro dip.
- Pumpkin Sandwich and Pumpkin Patty Burger.
- Top these -Caramelized Onion Cucumber Salad.
- Dunk them in wraps or tacos or have them alongside grilled vegetables, protein, or even falafel. Try our popular Veg Beet Tacos.
Storage Suggestions
I would recommend consuming the carrot fries as fresh as possible. If left over, carrots would absorb moisture and lose the crispy texture. If you have leftovers, you may transfer them to an airtight container with a lid, after they cool off. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
To reheat the refrigerated carrot fries, preheat your air fryer or oven to around 375°F (190°C). Place the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket and heat for a few minutes until they become warm and crispy again.
I won't recommend freezing them.
Recipe FAQs
For air frying vegetables like carrots, beets or potatoes, you may set preheating of air fryer at 375°F and another few min heating at the same temperature, depending upon the vegetable.
The possible reasons of fries being not crispy can be that you skipped pre-heating air fryer or you may have not dried the washed carrots.
How To Make Carrot Fries In Oven
The carrot fries can be made in a classic way in oven by preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) for 10 min. Slice carrots into thin sticks, toss with olive oil, salt, and desired seasonings.
Spread the carrot sticks in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are golden and crispy.
