    Ingredients

    • Carrots- Orange carrots work best for this recipe. They are robust and don't break easily. They are not very sweet like red carrots. If you don't mind sweet flavor that comes from red carrots, you may use them.
    • Garlic- While garlic powder may work, I love the crunchy garlicky flavor that comes from freshly chopped and air fried garlic. You may grate the garlic too. Feel free to add onions or onion powder to enhance the flavor of these fries.
    • Olive Oil- Olive oil works best as it adds freshness, nutty flavor, and aroma to this recipe. You may use Ghee, vegetable oil or coconut oil as well.
    • Pink Salt- I love the addition of pink salt in salads, soups and curds. They add perfect savory hint to the dish. You may use normal salt as well.

    Variations

    • Cheese Carrot Fries: If you enjoy a cheesy twist, top the carrot fries with grated Parmesan cheese or vegan cheese just in last few minutes of air frying. The cheese will melt and form a crispy, golden crust, enhancing the overall flavor and texture.
    • Vegetable Carrots: Expand your carrot fries into a colorful vegetable by adding other veggies such as zucchini, sweet potatoes, potatoes or bell peppers.
    • Add another Seasoning: Feel free to spice up the carrot fries with red peppers, black peppers or add dried herbs such as rosemary, thyme, or oregano.
    • Make Them Sweet: For a sweet and spicy flavor profile, combine a touch of honey or maple syrup with a pinch of cayenne pepper
    • Make them Tangy: Add a burst of citrus flavor by grating the zest of a lemon, lime, or orange over the carrot fries before air frying.

    Expert Tips

    • Opt for fresh, firm, and medium-sized carrots for the best results. Carrots that are too thick may not cook evenly, while very thin ones might become too crispy or burn easily.
    • To ensure even cooking, try to cut the carrot sticks into similar sizes. ¼-inch thickness and uniform length work well.
    • Preheating the Air Fryer for 5-10 mins help achieve a crispier exterior
    • To enhance the flavor and cooking nicely, I coated the carrots with olive oil and salt and then fried.
    • Arrange the carrot fries in a single layer with some space between them to ensure proper air circulation and avoid overcrowding.
    • Keep an eye on the carrot fries towards the end of the cooking time to prevent overcooking. Different air fryer models may vary in cooking times, so it's essential to check for your desired level of crispness and tenderness.
    • I have air fried carrots in two batches. In the first batch, I have used the parchment paper and in the second I have placed carrots directly in the fryer's basket. I felt that the one fried with parchment paper were not too crispy and a bit tender from out, whereas, the basket fried carrots were amazingly crisp and charred. You may choose the method that you prefer.

    Storage Suggestions

I would recommend consuming the carrot fries as fresh as possible. If left over, carrots would absorb moisture and lose the crispy texture. If you have leftovers, you may transfer them to an airtight container with a lid, after they cool off. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.

To reheat the refrigerated carrot fries, preheat your air fryer or oven to around 375°F (190°C). Place the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket and heat for a few minutes until they become warm and crispy again.

    I won't recommend freezing them.

What To Team With These Carrot Fries?

    1. Serve carrot fries with a variety of dipping sauces: honey mustard, or a tangy yogurt-based dip like tzatziki or ranch dressing or Green Cilantro dip.
    2. Pair carrot fries with your favorite burgers or sandwiches for a satisfying meal. Try Pumpkin Sandwich and Pumpkin Patty Burger.
    3. These air fried carrot fries can be used as a crunchy and nutritious topping for salads. Try Caramelized Onion Cucumber Salad.
    4. Dunk them in wraps or tacos for or have them alongside grilled vegetables, protein, or even falafel. Try our popular Veg Beet Tacos.

Oven Baked Fries Vs. Air Fried Fries

Texture: One of the main differences lies in the texture of the carrot fries. When baked in the oven, carrot fries tend to have a slightly softer texture with a slight chewiness. On the other hand, using an air fryer typically yields a crispier exterior, giving the fries a satisfying crunch while keeping the inside tender.

Cooking Time: Air fryers are known for their ability to cook food faster than conventional ovens. Carrot fries prepared in an air fryer generally require less cooking time compared to oven-baked ones. The hot circulating air in the air fryer speeds up the cooking process, resulting in quicker and more efficient cooking.

Oil Usage: When baking carrot fries in the oven, you typically need to toss the carrots with a generous amount of oil to ensure they don't stick to the baking sheet and to promote browning. However, when using an air fryer, you can achieve a crispy exterior with significantly less oil or even no oil at all.

    Recipe FAQs

What temperature do you air fry vegetables?

For air frying vegetables like carrots, beets or potatoes, you may set preheating of air fryer at 375°F and another few min heating at the same temperature, depending upon the vegetable.

Why my fries are not crispy in air fryer?

The possible reasons of fries being not crispy can be that you skipped pre-heating air fryer. This is an important step as it helps circulate hot air and reduces overall cooking time also. The other reason may be not placing the carrots evenly with spacing in between.

How To Make Carrot Fries In Oven

The carrot fries can be made in a classic way in oven by preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) for 10 min. Slice carrots into thin sticks, toss with olive oil, salt, and desired seasonings.

Spread the carrot sticks in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are golden and crispy.
