Ingredients
- Peaches- are the star ingredient of this recipe. I prefer using fresh and ripe peaches. They are naturally sweet and have mild tart flavor that balances the sweetness. I always pick up the local variety and recommend same to you. The same recipe would work with other summer fruits like plums, apple and pineapple.
- Olive Oil- While butter works well too, I wanted to create a butter free recipe. Feel free to use butter (may use vegan butter for keeping this recipe vegan).
- Maple Syrup-To add more sweetness to the ripe peaches, honey or maple syrup works great. I have used maple syrup and that helped me create perfect glazing peaches.
- Pink Salt- I love the blend of sweet and salty flavors. Sprinkling the grilled peaches with mild salt helped me achieve that. If you are using salted butter, you may skip adding salt.
- Pistachios(Optional)- You may top the grilled peaches with chopped pistachios. Any nuts would work well.
Variations
- Classic Grilled Peaches- If you have time, you may always try the classic style of grilling the peaches.
- Sugar Free Grilled Peaches- As peaches are naturally sweet, you may skip adding sugar in any form (honey or maple syrup) and grilled them with light oil and have them as is.
- Add another spice- I haven't added any spice as I wanted peach flavor to dominate. If you wish to experiment, you may add cardamom, cinnamon or pumpkin spice to the sugar.
- Add Buttery spiced mixture- If you want more charred version of these peaches, you may add cinnamon spice to the melted butter and coat well the peaches with it.
- Add Graham Crackers- One may add crushed graham crackers (or any cookie) for a quick snack.
- Add Yogurt as topping- While vanilla ice cream steals the show, for making these peaches low calorie dessert, I may suggest using plain yogurt.
Storage Suggestions
We didn't have any leftovers. If you have any leftovers, make sure to store the grilled peaches in a dry container with a lid for about 1-2 days. I don't recommend freezing them as peaches are juicy and would be runny when kept in freezer( after thawing). They would also lose the aroma and flavor when kept for long.
You may reheat the peaches in a wok on stove or in air fryer for about 5 min.
Expert Tips
- Choose peaches that are ripe enough to be sweet and juicy, but still firm enough to hold their shape during grilling. Overly ripe peaches can become mushy and lose their texture.
- Preheat the air fryer so that the peaches start cooking immediately upon placement, helping to develop a delicious caramelized exterior.
- To ensure even cooking, slice the peaches into uniform thickness. This allows them to cook at the same rate, preventing some pieces from becoming overcooked while others remain under cooked.
- Before grilling, lightly brush the peach slices with a small amount of oil or melted butter. This helps to prevent sticking and promotes better browning.
- Air fryers can vary in their cooking times and temperature settings. I have used Philips Air Fryer. Keep a close eye on the peaches during grilling to prevent them from burning. It's better to under cook them slightly and add more time if needed.
What To Team Grilled Peaches With?
While having grilled peaches with vanilla is enough as a snack, one may consider following for a complete meal option:
- Whole Wheat Focaccia Bread
- Scalloped Potatoes
- Green Beans with Garlic
- You may add these grilled peaches as a taco or burger filling or added to a cucumber fresh salad.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, ripe yet firm peaches are best for grilling as they tend to release the juice and still not get mushy.
Grilling peaches result in bursting them with sweet caramelized flavor. As they are sweet, you may skip the sugar )honey or maple) and have them just by heating for 5 min.
While any fruit can be heated or grilled in air fryer, it is preferred to use citrus and juicy fruits for grilling in air fryer or grill.
