- The Best Air Fryer Fried Bananas Ever!
Ingredients
- Bananas- Ripe bananas yet firm work best for this recipe as they are naturally sweet. But too much ripened banana would be very mushy when air fried. The same recipe can be used to air fry apple, pineapple or guava and peaches. You may take a look at my Air Fried Grilled Peaches
- Cocoa Powder-adds a rich, chocolatey element to the recipe, perfect for chocolate lovers. You may swap it with melted chocolate as well.
- Cinnamon-Powdered cinnamon adds warm, aromatic notes, enhancing the overall taste of the bananas. You may swap it with cardamom powder or pumpkin spice.
- Pink Salt-I love the savory flavor that comes from pink salt. A pinch is enough to create blend of flavors. If you are topping the fried bananas with butter, you may skip adding the salt.
- Maple Syrup-Drizzles a natural sweetness, enhancing the sweetness of the ripe bananas. You may add honey as well. (But I don't recommend heating honey). You may use caramel sauce too.
- Melted Chocolate (Optional)- Provides a smooth and decadent coating, elevating the deliciousness. Swap it with almond or peanut butter for a healthy and vegan alternative.
- Scoop of Vanilla Ice-cream (Optional) but highly recommend adding vanilla scoop as it creates a perfect dessert that has warm and cold components. Use a dairy free one for a vegan recipe.
Variations
- Caramelized Cinnamon: Mix cinnamon with a touch of brown sugar and melt it to create a delicious caramel-like coating on the bananas.
- Another Topping: Serve air-fried bananas with a dollop of Greek yogurt and a drizzle of honey for a creamy and tangy contrast or shredded coconut and a sprinkle of lime zest.
- Air Fryer Banana Chips: You may thin slice banana and fry them in air fry or savory chips.
- Air Fryer Pineapple- The same recipe would work well for making fried pineapple.
- Peanut Butter Toast- These air fried bananas can be spread on a peanut butter toast for a quick meal.
Expert Tips
- Choose ripe, yellow bananas that are firm. Ripe bananas are sweeter and softer, making them ideal for air frying. Overripe bananas are not recommended as they would be very mushy.
- To ensure uniform cooking, slice the bananas into even pieces, about ½ to ¾ inch thick.
- While air frying uses less oil than traditional frying, lightly spraying or brushing the banana slices with oil will help them crisp up and prevent sticking.
- Arrange the banana slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they do not overlap.
- For easier cleanup and to prevent sticking, consider placing a piece of parchment paper at the bottom of the air fryer basket before adding the banana slices. Adding a layer of parchment would make bananas a bit less crispy than without it.
Storage Suggestions
While I enjoy air-fried bananas fresh, you can store any leftover portions in refrigerator by letting them cool and then transferring them to an airtight container with lid for about 2 days. The texture would be a bit soggy when stored in the refrigerator. I don't recommend freezing them as they would be very soggy.
